Nizral Shampoo is utilized for the treatment of specific fungal infections of the skin. The key active ingredient in Nizral Shampoo is Ketoconazole.
Nizral Shampoo features Ketoconazole, which addresses seborrheic dermatitis, a prevalent cause of dandruff. Ketoconazole alters the pH level of the scalp, effectively inhibiting the favorable conditions for fungal infections to persist. It is recommended to use this shampoo twice a week for a duration of 14 to 30 days. On the other days, a non-medicated shampoo should be used. Apply Nizral to a wet scalp and let it sit for 3 to 5 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.
Potential side effects include headache, vomiting, constipation, nausea, and dizziness. Although extremely rare, liver problems may occur.
Nizral Shampoo is intended for external use only. Its use is not recommended during pregnancy or when breastfeeding infants, as small quantities of Ketoconazole may appear in breast milk.
You are advised to refrain from consuming alcohol during treatment since the combination may lead to nausea and vomiting.
Ketoconazole has the potential to increase the effects and concentrations of the following medications: Methyl prednisolone; Warfarin; Cisapride; antihistamines such as terfenadine and astemizole; Cyclosporin; Busulphan; HMG Co-A reductase inhibitors; Antidiabetic sulphonylurea medications.
The medications that can lower the concentration of ketoconazole include: Phenytoin; Isoniazid; Rifampicin; Carbamazepine.
